Upstyle Your Look for a New Year!!
Welcome 2017!! It's time for new goals and new beginnings!
It's ever so fun to be a holiday gift to someone who is excited about making positive changes in their look. Whenever this happens, I always wish I'd wrapped up in a big bow, but somehow I never remember the ribbon.
Brita was given the gift of my services by her husband for Christmas. What a beautiful change!!
Holiday 2016 is Here
HOLIDAY PARTY CHIC
It's often a dilemma to decide what to wear for holiday parties - especially if you have to work all day before the event. If in doubt wear a LBD (little black dress) and take along some great jewelry and sexy shoes to glam it up when you're ready to head out. Don't forget your makeup bag and hairbrush to freshen up and look party ready!
THE VELVET TOUCH
Velvet is the luxe fabric of the season and when better to feature it than during the holidays?
TOP OFF YOUR HOLIDAYS WITH STYLE
As I said above, a great top or blouse will get you everywhere this season! I've always loved those with a twist of some kind - and I adore asymmetry. Here are some of my picks.....
Bonjour Paris!
Hello Friends!
Well, I've only been home from Paris for three weeks and already it seems like ages ago. It doesn't take long for reality to set in!
While traveling, I read a darling book called "The Little Paris Bookshop." It called to me in many ways, but the most poignant was how I related to the main character in how we both work. He owned a floating bookshop on the Seinne called The Literary Apothecary.
"Perdue used his ears, his eyes and his instincts. From a single conversation, he was able to discern what each soul lacked. From a certain degree, he could read from a body's posture, it's movements and its gestures....he can see and hear through most people's camouflage.....A book is both a medic and medicine at once. Putting the right novels to the appropriate ailments: that's how I sell books." It's the same as understanding a person's persona and putting them in the right clothes.
I have an expression that I call processing. It's the perfect term for all the senses I use to know who my clients really are. All antennas are up....to watch, listen and observe. Add telepathy and an extensive knowledge of resources and I have my prescription.
Dressing people can be complicated - and is often not about fashion. It's about giving them a style and an identity that suits them, their lifestyle and whatever occasion (or situation) arises. Owning your look sends a message to whomever may be in your comany. It's very uncomfortable to feel and look like you tried...and missed! And many times it really is about nailing the moment!

Stand to Attention in Military Chic
If there was ever an excuse to shop vintage, this is it - for most anything! It seems the military influence has been in fashion since the beginning of time. I've had my St. John military jacket for 25 years and it's still timeless and perfect. So, no matter what your style may be, here a few looks from tough girl casual to on point classic vogue......
pair with jeans, leggings or pants for whatever your day may hold. These pieces are timeless in your mix.
Giddy Up!
Stirrup pants are perfect for keeping your leggings tucked into your booties. Make sure they're a strong enough knit and fit tightly through the leg and ankle. If not, they may pull too much giving no shape to your legs - or bag in the knees giving you "knees" all day....sitting or standing! You DON'T want them to look like the old stretch pants from the 60's!!
FYI, I sewed a wide piece of elastic into the hem of my suede pair for a sleek look into my suede booties. Otherwise, they kept riding up and the look was off. You never want to look like you almost got it right - especially in Paris!
Note: If you wear stirrup pants to work out, they will most likely pull down.
Wear with boots instead.
The Making of Kelly
I do love my job! I've just worked with a beautiful - and brilliant - DC bound future exec for Deloitte Consulting firm. She graduated with honors from the University of Virginia and is destined to own the company. She is 23. Kelly is walking in to a fabulous new career....owning herself. She had nothing in her closet. Here's a sneak peek at the work we did building her new look and wardrobe.
